Fear of appearing as or being identified as Asian is fairly typical about biracial Asians with Asian mothers; some of these cases have been documented by, among others, the New York Times. See the article: “Choose your own Identity,” in which an Asian woman laments that her son refuses to identify as Chinese.

The message that Asian women send is clear: that white is better than Asian, and that integration and status and white privilege are a commodity that is highly valued, especially within the framework of Asian culture, which prioritizes practicality, pragmatism, and yes, rewards white privilege.

Asian women have admitted repeatedly, behind closed doors, or in anonymous or even named publications, that their “preference” for white men, and only white men, has everything to do with privilege.
